How Box Label Maker works
From the first box code to finding the kettle on the first evening. Everything below happens on your phone; no account is needed.
Projects and box codes
Create a project for each move, storage unit or clear-out. Its prefix (1 to 4 letters or digits, starting with a letter) goes in front of every box number: BB-001, BB-002. Set the first number if you continue an earlier batch. If you change the prefix or a number later, labels printed before are listed as “to reprint”.
Boxes and contents
Tap New box, pick a template if one fits, choose the room at the new place, a category, the size and the marks. On the box screen type what goes in: “6 mugs”, “mugs x6” or a list separated by commas. Tap an item to change the quantity, add a note, move it to another box or delete it.
Printing labels
Open the Labels tab of a project (or select boxes in the box list and tap Labels). Choose which boxes, the layout (1, 8 or 21 per A4 sheet), what goes on the label and where to start on a partly used sheet. Tap Print for the Android print dialog, or Share PDF / Save PDF. In the print dialog choose A4 and 100 % so the labels line up with the sheet. Once the labels are on the boxes, tap “Mark as labelled”, so the app knows which boxes still need one.
The QR code
The QR code is generated on your phone and contains text only: the box code, or the code with room, title, contents and marks (you choose on the Labels tab). A phone camera shows this text. It does not link to the app or to a website.
Finding a box
On the Find tab type a code from a label (BB-014, bb14 or 14) or words – the item, a room, a category, a #tag or a note. Every word has to match, plurals are fine (“kettles” finds “kettle”). Filter by project, status or category. The Contents tab of a project lists all items from A to Z.
Status, progress and history
Set a box to packing, sealed, delivered or unpacked on its screen, or press and hold boxes in the list to change several at once. The Summary tab shows progress, boxes per room and category, what still needs attention and the latest changes; the full history is in the project menu.
Templates, copies, export and backup
Use the six built-in templates, duplicate them or save any box as a template. Duplicate a project with or without its boxes. Export the box list as PDF, CSV or text from the project menu. Under More › Your data back up everything as a JSON file and import it on another phone.
